While the official currency is the Icelandic krona, You might find that some hotels and tourist-facing businesses accept the US dollar, British pound or euro. Iceland is mostly a cashless society. Cards are accepted everywhere, with the exception of Amex. Amex is accepted at some places, but it´s common to not be accepted, so I advise people to travel with a Visa or Mastercard as well. American debit cards work great here.
What to expect of the weather?
Iceland
In June, the weather in Iceland is a mix of mild temperatures and extended daylight hours. This is due to the country’s proximity to the Arctic Circle. The average temperature in June ranges from 9°C to 15°C (48°F to 59°F). However, it’s not uncommon for temperatures to dip or rise unexpectedly.
What to wear?
You will need to pack long trousers, sweaters, scarf, hat and a rain/wind-proof jacket. During the day, casual attire is always appropriate day wear, such as jeans, shorts, tees, polos, sweater, jackets etc.
What to pack?
- Iceland uses the standard Europlug socket with two round prongs. For these plugs, you can use adapter types “C” or “F”. These are often labelled as a Northern Europe adapter. If you are visiting Iceland from overseas, we do not recommend bringing a hair dryer.
- A portable charger
- Binoculars
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Insulated water bottle
- Bug spray with DEET
- Sunscreen, sunglasses and hat
- Photography gear
- Personal first aid kit – plasters (Moisturizer lip balm, Aspirin or Tylenol etc)
